Shift The Way You Move

Nissan Motor Company Ltd is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world and is headquartered in Japan. Nissan formerly marketed vehicles under the Datsun brand. The Datsun brand produced mainly trucks that were used in the military market and the company was initially known as DAT Motorcar Co. It wasn't until 1933 that Nissan took over DAT Motorcar Co and began manufacturing Nissan Automobiles. In 1937 the Datsun Type 15 became the first mass-produced Japanese vehicle and in 1958 the first Datsun sedan arrived in the United States. In 1959 they introduced the first Datsun compact pickup to the US market and this quarter ton pickup firmly established Datsun in the states.

Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A.

Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A was established in Gardenia, California in 1960. It was in this year that the first Datsun sports car , the SPL 210, was introduced. By 1966 Nissan had the first Japanese-owned production facility in North America.

240Z - Best Selling Sports Car in the World

In 1969 Datsun introduced the "Z" as a 1970 model. The 240Z offered European performance along with comforts like roll-up windows and a heater packaged together at an affordable price. This combination launched the 240Z into becoming the best selling sports car in the world. The "Z" sold 500,00 units in fewer than 10 years while competitors like the Corvette took nearly 25 years to sell that number. By 1975 Datsun had become the top U.S. vehicle importer.

1980's and Beyond

In the 1980's Nissan hit some major milestones and rapidly gained even more momentum. It was in this decade that Nissan manufactured it's first truck in the U.S. and also launched their Infiniti luxury brand. They established Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation in Smyrna, Tennessee and also Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation, Nissan's financing division, in Torrance, California. Nissan also made their mark in the off-road truck racing world earning 19 championships between 1982 and 1992. Nissan continues to be one of the largest and strongest Japanese auto manufacturers and is known for crafting vehicles with edgy styling and performance. The company's lineup of vehicles includes sporty coupes, family sedans, minivans, trucks and SUVs.
